Pop Up Camping
Fuzzy Bear and his Camper
Welcome to our newest section of "Around the Campfire" on pop up camping. To the left is a picture of me and my "new" 1988 Sun-Lite pop up trailer. Up until now I've been a camping purist and felt that the only way to experience the outdoors was in a
tent or in the open carrying everything in a backpack. But as I've gotten older, and my aches have gotten more painful, I'm beginning to appreciate the simple luxuries that can be found in this form of camping while still enjoying the experience of the great outdoors. It brings together the best of both worlds. With the canvas sides you can still be lulled to sleep by the soothing sounds of the night, while at the same time, staying drier and have the conveniences of a stove, refrigerator, sink and firm bed. One of the things I like about the pop up is it's light weight, so I didn't have to do any major modifications to my vehicle. I tow it with a 1994 Ford Explorer. So far I have made about a half a dozen fairly short trip with it (about 100 miles one way) and have had no problems to speak of. For those who may be growing tired of the tenting lifestyle, this is a nice easy step up to the convenience of an RV.

In this section we will discuss some of the situations unique to pop up camping. Safety issues for the trailer, as well as general maintenance. Towing and highway safety and links to sites specifically geared toward pop up camping.
