Lake Waramaug SP
New Preston, CT

The weekend of 9/23 we visited Lake Waramaug SP in New Preston CT. The campground is located on a picturesque lake which is perfect for boaters and fishing. The campground itself is a standard State Park with no water or electric hookups at the sites, but with modern restrooms amply provided around the park.

The sites are easily accessible for small to medium travel trailers and relatively level for tenters. While the sites are a bit close with not a lot of privacy, they are large enough to accomodate a medium sized group. The park rangers were very friendly and helpful and check in was done in a matter of minutes. The dirt roads leading to the campsites were well laid out and finding our site was simple using the campground map.

The lake located across the road from the campground has a beach as well as canoe and kayak rentals available. The waters were calm and sitting by the lake at sunset was a perfect way to end the day. The nearest towns are a bit of a drive, and not a lot to do in the area as far as specialty shopping or attractions, but for a getaway it is an idyllic spot. In the area is the CT Wine Trail, and not too far is the Hopkins Winery, open every day for wine tasting.

Overall I would highly recommend Camping on the Battenkill as very nice getaway for relaxation.
