The Hitchhiker

  Tom had just left a party and was driving down a dark and deserted road. It was about 12:30 at night and pouring down rain. He had only driven about 2 miles when he saw this faint figure walking along the side of the road. As he got closer he realized it was a young lady and she was wearing a long white dress, the kind a girl would wear only on a special occassion.

He pulled over and asked if she would like a ride. She said she would and got in. He noticed her shivering from the cold and rain, so he took off his jacket and offered it to her. She gladly accepted it and draped it over her shoulders and then gave him directions to her house. When they arrived she rushed out of the car and into the house leaving him without a goodbye. He figured something was wrong and she was just glad to be home, so he drove off without another thought.

The next morning he realized that the girl had forgot to give his jacket back to him in her haste to reach her home. He drove over to the house and went up and knocked on the door. An older woman answered the door and from the resemblence her knew it must be her mother. Tom explained the situation to the woman and asked to see the young girl so he could get his jacket back. The lady was shaken up and asked Tom to describe the girl. After he did the woman began to cry and asked him to come inside. She then showed Tom a picture of the young girl and asked if it was the same one who he was looking for. Tom said it was and the lady then explained that the girl was her daughter but died 10 years ago on her Prom night in a car accident.

Tom didn't know what to think so once he left he house he decided to go to the cemetary and investigate. There, draped over the headstone of the girl he had met, was his jacket...
