The House in the Cemetery

Back in the 1980s there was this old abandoned cemetery. It had only four headstones in it and hadn't been kept up in years so the government removed the headstones, not the graves themselves, only the headstones, then built a house on it. The house sold quickly.
The couple who bought it had been looking for just such a place. It was very pretty, out to itself, and cheap. Of course they didn't know that it was built on top of the old cemetery. Anyway, they moved in the weekend after they bought it. That night, after going to bed, the husband awoke to a strange sound coming from downstairs. It sounded as if someone was choking. He got up and went downstairs to the living room, turning on lights as he went. There was nothing out of the ordinary so he went back to bed. They both awoke early the next morning and, together, they went downstairs. At the bottom of the stairs the two of them were startled to see a rope, a noose tied in it, hanging from the ceiling. "How did 'THAT' get there!?" the wife asked, frightened. "I have no idea, Honey!" said the husband, "But something strange is going on here! No wonder we got this place so cheap."
This happened for like three nights in a row. Finally they got scared and were about ready to move out but first, they wanted to ask the man who'd sold them the house whatwas going on. They tried and tried and finally got the man on the phone. They told him what they had found hanging from the ceiling and the man, after hesitating for what seemed like forever, told them the house was built on top of a very old cemetery and that one of the graves had contained the remains of a woman who'd hung herself  many years ago on the very property the house had been built on. Satisfied that they finally had an explanation for what had happened, the couple decided to try and keep the house and make peace with whatever was haunting them. It was a very bad decision, for that night the couple, hearing the same choking sounds as they'd heard on the previous nights, went down to check it out. Once again they found the rope hanging from the ceiling and called the police. When the police got there, the couple was gone though their car was still in the driveway. All of their possessions were in the house. Nothing was missing, but the couple was never heard from again. The police assumed that the couple had simply gotten frightened and left the house in a second vehicle, leaving everything they owned behind. The case was closed but the townfolk knew that the couple had owned only one
vehicle, they had not yet had a phone put in so they couldn't have called anyone to come and get them. They had simply dissappeared never to be heard from again. The townfolk will tell you, even to this day, that the vengeful spirit of the old woman who'd hung herself on the property all those years ago, had somehow murdered them from beyond the grave....
